MX-1
Power on modes
The MX-1 has a number of different modes available depending on what button is depressed when the power is switched on. These are described in the following table.
Press and hold the button in the left-hand column and power on the MX-1 to get into the desired mode.

The different modes and the functions available are detailed in the sections below.
Factory Reset
Press and hold RECALL and power on.
Display shows ‘rSt’
Press START/STOP button.
When display shows ‘CNP’ power off.
SETUP Mode
Press and hold GAIN and power on.
START/STOP button flashes, some of the Pad LEDs are lit and the CHANNEL SETTING display shows NiH whilst the TEMPO display shows C15.
Channel Link
Channel link determines if the input jacks for channels 1,2,3 and 4 are two STEREO inputs or four individual MONO inputs, the latter being the default setting.
Selecting either Channel 1 or Channel 2’s SELECT button will toggle between mono and stereo. If the setting is mono, the Channel 2 LEDs will be lit. When Stereo is set Channel 2 LEDs are turned off.
Selecting either Channel 3 or Channel 4’s SELECT button will toggle between mono and stereo. If the setting is mono, the Channel 4 LEDs will be lit. When Stereo is set Channel 4 LEDs are turned off.
DIGITAL Jack Operation
Sets the DIGITAL jack to be an INPUT or OUPUT.
Pressing the DIGITAL channel SELECT button will toggle between the to settings. When the channel LEDs are lit, the channel is set to an input and when off, the channels is set to be an output.
Default setting is INPUT.
USB Audio Frequency
Press the BFX button and turn the VALUE knob to select one of three options for the mixer sampling rate, 44.1, 48 or 96kHz, the latter being the default.
Use this setting to match the mixer’s sampling rate with the audio interface it is connected to.
MIDI Channel
This is set by pressing and turning the TEMPO knob .
- OFF – MIDI is off
- Ch1 thru’ Ch16 – Indicates the selected MIDI channel. Ch15 is the default MX-1 MIDI channel
- ONn – The MX-1 is in OMNI mode and will receive MIDI on all channels
PAD Functions
The pads 1-4 have specific functions when in setup mode:
PAD 1 – FADER Mode
- UNLIT – FADER Jump. On scene recall, the operating a fader will cause the value to jump to the recalled value.
- LIT – FADER Passthrough. On scene recall, the fader value will not be updated until the fader is moved past the recalled value.
PAD 2 – AUX SEND Routing
- UNLIT – Pre-FADER send
- LIT – Post-FADER send
PAD 3 – AUX RETURN MASTER FX
- UNLIT – MASTER FX is not applied to the return signal
- LIT – MASTER FX applied to return signal
PAD 4 – MIDI THRU
- UNLIT – MIDI THRU is off
- LIT – MIDI THRU is on
Mixer Modes
Press TONE button and turn the VALUE knob. The mode type is shown in the CHANNEL SETTING display as the value knob is adjusted. Three modes are available:
- MIXER Mode – Display shows NiH
The MX-1 acts as a conventional mixer and all inputs are fed to the MIX OUT jacks. - CONTROLLER Mode – Display shows Sur
The MX-1 assigns MIDI channels 1 thru’ 11 to each of the physical channels allowing the MX-1 to operate as a USB controller for a DAW. Mixing is not performed by the mixer and all sound output from the computer connection is fed to the MIX OUT jacks. - EXTERNAL Mode – Display shows Ext
The MX-1 operates as a mixer for a DAW.
Screen Saver
Press PAN and adjust the VALUE knob to the time, from 1 to 30 minutes, for the screen saver display to occur. Set to OFF to disable.
PAD Colours
Press AUX and select from 6 colour schemes for the MX-1 PADs. CL2 is a dimmed version of the default.
System Version
Press GAIN to show the current software version. This will be displayed in the CHANNEL SETTING display when setup mode is entered so pressing GAIN is only required if one of the other buttons has been pressed whilst in setup mode.
Press START/STOP to save any changes and restart the MX-1.
